Student Leadership/ Kindergarten Transition

The Year 6/7 students were offered the opportunity to run, with Trina’s support, small PE skills sessions for our neighbouring Kindergarten students, twice a term. Lots of students volunteered to plan and run this program, which was great to see.

The first session was held on Monday 11th September 9am-9:30am. Congratulations to the Year 6/7 students who ran this program. They were all very organised and treated the younger students with respect and understanding. They all did a fantastic job. The kindergarten students had a great time and learnt lots from them. Well done to all involved.

AFL Football Clinic

On Wednesday the 6th of September we had Victor Harbor High School’s year 10 specialist AFL class visit for a football clinic with the Reception/1’s. The Students had a ball and all reported back that their favorite rotation was using the specky bags and bump pads. We even had some students bowling their coaches over in spectacular displays.  A huge thank you goes out to Paul Loughhead and his High School students, they did a brilliant job!

Sapsasa Local Athletics Day

We had 23 students participate in our school Athletics team at Victor Primary, against the other schools in our District, on Wednesday 30th August. Milo T20 Blast School Year 6/7 Cricket Cup at Goolwa Oval

The MILO T20 Blast School Cup for Year 6/7’s is being held at Goolwa Oval on Tuesday 31st October. Each team gets to play four games of cricket. Every player gets a chance to bat, bowl and field. Regional winners play on Adelaide Oval with the state winners to play at the MCG! (This is the carnival our girls’ team won in 2014 and got to play on Adelaide Oval. This same carnival in 2014 our boys team won, then went on to win the Adelaide Oval carnival – becoming State Champs - and then went on to win the carnival in Melbourne on the MCG – becoming National Champions!).

Students from Year 6/7 have been invited to enter teams of 8 or 9 to be a part of this carnival. Each team MUST have an adult in charge of their team before the team will be registered. So if any adults are willing to run a team on the day please see Trina at school or send her in a note with your child. Registrations are due to Trina by Friday Week 5, 25th August.

Sporting Schools Grants

Last year Trina applied for and received a Lawn Bowls Grant in Term 3 and a Table Tennis Grant in Term 4, which resulted in the students being trained in the skills of those 2 sports during PE lessons, and the school receiving enough equipment necessary to successfully teach these sports to a whole class of children at a time. This year, Trina applied for Soccer in Term 2 and Hockey in Term 3. This term the grant will provide the school with more hockey equipment and a hockey coach who will deliver an in depth hockey skills program, with Trina’s assistance, during Monday’s PE lessons Week 5,6,8, and 9.

Sapsasa Basketball Year 4/5 and Year 6/7 girls and boys teams

The Year 4/5 Basketball championships were held on Monday 7th August and the Year 6/7 competition on Wednesday 9th August at Morphett Vale. We entered a boys team and a girls team in both competitions.

The Year 4/5 teams both finished second in their respective pools after 3 games. This saw them both play off for a chance in the Grand Final, but unfortunately both teams were defeated. All players displayed tenacity, team work and great sportsmanship.

In the 6/7 competition all players had a great day and learnt a lot throughout the experience. The boys won 3/6 games and never gave up trying. The girls won 6/6 to finish first in their pool but unfortunately lost the crossover grand final, finishing second for the day.

Thank you to Sheena, Tammy, Kerry, Mitchell, Tyann, Shanice and Rebecca for coaching on the two daysp and to the numerous parents who scored or who were timekeeper for the games. It was great to have so many spectators cheering us on, too. Once again, I am exceptionally proud of all the students and the great sportsmanship and team spirit shown. Congratulations to all.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots (ANZTHS) Year 4/5 Competition

Tennis SA, in conjunction with SAPSASA, are organising a Year 4/5 primary school competition which uses modified equipment, numeric scoring and mixed gendered teams. If you are interested in supervising a team or would like to help out on the day, please see Trina at school.

Sapsasa Girls Hockey State Team

Congratulations to Selena who, as a result of playing in the week long District Sapsasa Hockey carnival in late term 2, was invited to attend the Sapsasa Girls Hockey State team trials. Selena has been selected in the final team and will compete in a week long carnival in December. Well done Selena. Enjoy this wonderful experience.

Sapsasa Knockout Boys Soccer

The boys’ played their match against McLaren Vale Primary at our local Breakers Oval on Friday 16th June, 1pm. It was such a great game of intensity, skill and defence. Unfortunately we lost 1-0 meaning we are “knocked out” of the competition. The boys can be proud of themselves for displaying fantastic efforts all match and sportsmanship. Thanks to Josh and the Breakers club for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities. Thanks to Josh for coaching and to Amanda for walking with us there and back. Thanks also to Kev for being the referee and to Daniel for being the lines ref.

Sapsasa Knockout Girls’ Netball

The girls played on Friday 16th June at Port Elliot Netball Club vs Tatachilla. The girls played another great game, displaying a lot of skill, but unfortunately were beaten on the day, resulting in us now being “knocked out” of the competition. Thank you to Anthea and the PENC for helping us organise this, for umpiring and for the use of their facilities. We greatly appreciate the support. Thanks to Tyann for walking with us there and back, and for assisting with the scoring and timekeeping. It was also great to have so many supporters there cheering us on. Thanks again to Jodie and Karen for coaching our previous games.

Sapsasa Knockout Girls’ Football

The girls’ played their match against Woodcroft School at Woodcroft on Tuesday 13th June at 10:30am. The game was very low scoring with fantastic defence from both teams. We unfortunately lost by 2 goals so we are now “knocked out” of the competition. Thank you to Hamish and Riley for coaching the girls, to Tyann for assisting us there and back on the bus, and to Jarrod for goal umpiring. Thank you to all the supporters who came to cheer us on too.

Thank you

We would like to thank the Port Elliot Tennis Club for their kind donation of tennis balls to be used at school by the students. We are very grateful for all the support our local sporting clubs, and the community in general, give to our school and our students.

Sapsasa Knockout Boys’ football

The boys played on Friday 2nd June at Victor Harbor High vs Unity school (Murray Bridge). Thank you to Paul and the High School again for assisting us with these plans, supplying umpires and for the use of their facilities.

The boys tried their absolute hardest but were out played and defeated. This means we have been knocked out of the competition with no further games.

Thanks to Brett for coaching the team, for running practice on a Tuesday and for being such a positive, encouraging coach. I know the boys learnt a lot. It was lovely to have our supporters there cheering us on. Thank you to all who attended and sent well wishes for the game. Thank you also to Amanda for assisting us there and back on the bus.

Without all these people who volunteer and assist us in Sapsasa events, the students would not get these opportunities. We are very grateful.
