Boomer Chant

Boomer Boomer that’s our name

We will enter the hall of fame

Commodore and Freeman better run

We are going to be number 1

We‘ll try our best and never give up

At the end of the day

We’ll be holding the shield up

The other teams will hear this year

Boomer screaming loud and clear

B.O.O.M.E.R

GO BOOMER!

PORT ELLIOT NETBALL CLUB AND GOOLWA / PORT ELLIOT FOOTBALL CLUB CLINIC (ran by Victor Harbor High AFL pathway students)

Port Elliot Netball Club and Goolwa/Port Elliot Football Club (assisted by staff and students from the Victor Harbor High School Specialist AFL Program) hosted a skills session for Reception – Year 5 girls and boys on Friday 17th February. Thank you to the volunteers (Anthea, Jacky, Wendy, Verity and Cherie) for running this opportunity for the students and a special thanks to the staff and students from the Victor Harbor High School Specialist AFL Program (Mitch, Brayden, Rory, Mitch, Cooper, Cody, Ollie and Caleb) for assisting in the running of the football clinic. The students really enjoyed these opportunities. If you would like more information about any local sporting club and opportunities for your child please speak to Trina at school.

Milo T20 Blast School Cricket Cup at Encounter Bay Oval

The MILO T20 Blast School Cup is being held at Encounter Bay Oval on Tuesday 25th October. Students from Year 6/7 have been invited to enter teams of 8 or 9 to be a part of this carnival.

Each team gets to play four action packed games of cricket. Every player gets a chance to bat, bowl and field. It's an exciting atmosphere, complete with music and dancing just like the KFC T20 Big Bash League. Regional winners play on Adelaide Oval with the state winners to play at the MCG!

This is the carnival our girls’ team won in 2014 and got to play on Adelaide Oval. This same carnival in 2014 our boys team won, then went on to win the Adelaide Oval carnival – becoming State Champs - and then went on to win the carnival in Melbourne on the MCG – becoming National Champions!

Each team MUST have an adult in charge of their team before the team will be registered. So if any adults are willing to run a team on the day please see me at school or send me in a note with your child. Registrations are due no later than 22nd September.

SAPSASA ATHLETICS

On Wednesday 31st August the school’s Athletics team of 24 athletes competed at Victor Harbor Primary School. We had 22 place getters throughout the day with many students being invited to represent the District in their event at SANTOS stadium later this term.

Place getters were:

1st - Jye (Discus, High Jump), Reuben (High Jump), Sophie (Shot Put), Brandon (800m, Shot Put), Poppy (Shot Put), Elyssia (High Jump),

2nd – Kenny (High Jump), Riley (800m), Harriet (800m), Sophie (100m, Discus), Rylen (Discus), Jye (Shot Put), Jamie (Discus)

3rd – Logan (Shot Put), Poppy (800m), Harriet (High Jump), Reuben (100m, Long Jump), Dylan (High Jump)

Thanks to Becky, Anita, Hamish and Ellie for their help throughout the whole day and to the parents who came and supported, encouraged and assisted throughout the day. This adult help is invaluable as without it we could not compete in SAPSASA events. The students, the school and I are very grateful.

SAPSASA STATE HOCKEY

Congratulations to Hassan on representing South Australia in the week long SAPSASA Hockey carnival in Cairns. SA beat NSW and Victoria, finishing 4th out of 6 teams, missing out on Bronze by 1 point. Hassan had lots of fun and had a great week learning lots about Hockey. Well done Hassan

OLYMPICS

The past two weeks whilst the Olympics have been on in Rio the students have been involved in numerous extra special activities. In PE time we have conducted our own mini Olympics and held events. At recess and lunch breaks enthusiastic and dedicated Year 6/7 students ran Olympic style activities for the students of the school. We even had our own mock Opening ceremony with Olympic torches made by Year 6/7’s and the Australian Anthem sung as we raised the Australian flag in victory for GOLD! We hope all students enjoyed these extra activities and well done to the Olympic student committee who all did a fantastic job.

SAPSASA BASKETBALL

The Year 6/7 carnival was held at Morphett Vale on Wednesday 27th July. Thank you to Kristin, Kerry, Tammy, Sheena, Peta, Tyann, Mandy, Joanne and Alex who either drove students, helped out, scored and coached the teams on the day.

The boys lost 2 games (both by less than 5 points) finishing 2nd for their pool. The girls won 1 game but were very close in all the other games, losing by no more than 4 points in any game. Once again our students did us proud displaying great team work, sportsmanship and understanding throughout the carnival. A great day had by all.

SAPSASA BASKETBALL

The Year 5 carnival was played on Wednesday 29th June. We entered a boys and girls team. Thank you to Kristin, Simon, Alex and James who helped coach and manage the teams on the day. Thanks to Kristin, Sue, Regan, Kelly and Simon for driving us there and back. Thanks also to Sue, Toshimi and Alex for scoring. We had a lot of family support there on the day, which is fantastic. We greatly appreciate this support from you all.

Both teams played fantastic basketball demonstrating great team work. The passing, voices on court and defence were all very impressive. The boys were undefeated all day and won the Grand Final. The girls only lost one game to EFS and then played them again in the Grand Final where EFS were still too strong for us. Congratulations to you all. We all had a great day.

The Year 6/7 carnival is at Morphett Vale on Wednesday 27th July. Final teams have been selected and practices are occurring. Thank you to Kristin, Kerry, Tammy and Alex who have volunteered to coach and score on the day.

SAPSASA KNOCKOUT NETBALL

The girls played their third round netball match on Wednesday 22nd June at Strathalbyn. We started well and were leading by 1 goal at the end of the first quarter. However the opposition came back in the second quarter to lead by 8 goals. The next 2 quarters were very close but unfortunately we were not able to catch their score and were beaten. So this means we are “knocked out” of the competition for this year. The girls tried hard all game, practiced often and were a very formidable team.

Thanks again to Jodie for coaching, driving and umpiring the girls. We learnt a lot and had a great time.

SAPSASA ATHLETICS

As part of our normal PE program we have been practicing various athletic skills and events. Students born in 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003 also have the opportunity to nominate and trial for the school’s Athletics team who will compete at Victor Harbor Primary School later in Term 3. More information will be sent home with the selected team members soon.
